Two stop bits is the default.
I find that adding a RADIO ONE BAUD RATE line in the TR config file helps
sometimes, even if you think everything is working at the default 4800 baud
rate.

The default baud rate for radio communication is 4800 (no parity, 8 bits
with 2 stop bits). If you need to change this rate, use the RADIO ONE
BAUD RATE or RADIO TWO BAUD RATE commands. Please note that
higher baud rates may not work with some rigs; if you have trouble with
communication between the rig and TR-LOG, try switching the baud rate (in
TR-LOG and on the rig) to 4800.

Subject: Re: [Trlog] FT1000D interfacing
I still cant get this FT1000D to talk to TR. I'm beginning to suspect a bad
port in the radio.
But first i have a couple dumb questions...
I keep finding references to the FT1000D using "2" data bits instead of the
usual 1.
Do i change that in TR? I don't seem to see a command to do it.
Else I am guessing i do it in DOS? I've used the command Mode Com1:
4800,N,8,2 to no effect.
Other than that I'm out of ideas. My config file has this in it:
Radio one control port = serial one
radio one baud rate = 4800
radio one type = ft1000d
Yaesu response timeout = 1000
I've verified the FT1000D has Eprom version 6.0 in it.
I've tried the radio to computer via both a fif-232 and W1GEE cable.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
