[TRLog] Sound Card (was RAT meter)

I could not agree more. I have been trying to figure out how to put my PC
speaker into my soundcard on one of these new Toshiba computers. Basically,
the speaker is soldered into the motherboard and the sound card is
integrated into the motherboard. So, there is no cable to route into the
soundcard as I have seen suggested here (and have even done myself on my
computer back home). Since I do not have a station in Salt Lake City
(relocation, etc), I use the simulator quite often to keep improving my code
speed for contests at K7OPT's place. Since the family is not crazy about
listening to code at 35wpm (or any other speed), I would love to use the
headset, but I cannot.

Of course, compared to any other feature in TR for actual contesting, this
is not worth the bandwidth. It is on the wishlist, but I agree that with the
amount of work Tree does, his time is better spent on direct contest related
issues. The only merit to the sound card is that it is one more elimination
of the "CT does this...".

Perhaps, if I found out what compiler Tree wrote the code in (Pascal I
think), I could write a module to control the soundcard. This could be
integrated and tested. Another option is to monitor the DOS port (67?) for
the timer chip (sound generator) to mimic the output to the soundcard. All
these ideas are add-on kludges, but they would let someone else implement
it. The SBDVK does this but it has an interrupt to intercept, which is not
provided by the timer chip.

Oh well, the bottom line is that sound card support would be a great
feature, but if it came down to this feature or a contest related one,
rightly so, the contest is always KING!!!

However, soundcard support could be used for the simulator. There is
>a CT (accck...gawd that leaves a bad taste) pileup simualtor that I

>control (freq/RIT displayed, maybe even simulate a TS-870), simulated
>packet spots (already in there), simulated band mapping, etc, etc...
