This Week's Contests:
1. Thursday 40M QRP Fox Hunt. Friday UTC 0200-0330Z. 7030 to 7050
kHz. Two foxes will be hiding somewhere in those frequencies. NK9G,
Rick, in WI and K2ZN, Al, in NY. Work only the two foxes using a
maximum of 5 watts. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power.
2. NCCC NA Sprint Practice (NS). No 20M this week. 40, 80, 160M CW.
100W maximum power. 0230-0259Z Friday (Thursday night local). Exchange:
both calls, serial #, name, SPC. There should be a slow speed (18-26
WPM) SNS 0200-0220Z. I will post any announcement I get on it. It
might include 20M as it never includes 160M. So my assumption is 20,
40, 80M as usual.
3. RAEM Contest. Named in honor of a famous ham and commercial
operator, who was a hero of an Arctic disaster and was permitted to use
the commercial call "RAEM" as his personal ham call for the rest of his
life. I worked him several times and have at least one QSL from him.
Hmmm, wonder what that counts as for the WPX Award? RA0 or maybe even
RAEM0? 0000Z to 1159Z Sunday (Saturday night to Sunday morning local).
80-10M CW. Exchange: Serial # + latitude in degrees and longitude in
degrees. Example: 001 32N 85W. You can get your longitude and
latitude from the "detail" under your listing on QRZ.COM. This is a
fairly popular contest among the Russians and will bring out a lot of CW
activity on 80 and 40M and perhaps on 20M.
4. Straight Key Century Club December Week Day Sprint (SKS). 00-02Z
Wednesday (Tuesday local). 160-6M CW. Use a mechanical key. Exchange:
RST, Name, SPC, SKCC# or power.
5. 80M QRP Fox Hunt. Same rules as for the 40M QRP Fox Hunt except
there will be different Foxes and the frequencies are 3550-3570 kHz.
6. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Wednesday local time. 13Z, 19Z, 03Z
(Thursday UTC). 160-10M CW. Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Every
month some non-members participate and some of them will be nominated
for membership. Look around 1815 kHz and 028 kHz on the other bands.
Weesie and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year. Have a good week and weekend and a lot of QSOs even if there
aren't so many major contests this weekend.
73, John, K4BAI.
