FT1000MP, 100W, dipole, zepp, inverted vee. New (to me) MP just picked up to
try to get my SO2R setup going again. Probably my worst ever NCCC Practice
from home. (I did work only 2 stations on 80M in 30 mins from 6Y5/K4BAI in
May.) 20M was dead. During the SNS, I called W7OM, K9BGL, K1GU and no QSOs on
40. Band too long for eastern contacts. W7WHY and N9RV were easily workable
and KH6LC and W7SW were loud, but didn't get in sync for a QSO. 80 was pretty
good in SNS. Then at the half hour, 40 was still too long and it was still hard
to work WA, but did get K7RI. K1ZZI about 120 miles away was workable. Could
hear W9RE, K9BGL, K1GU, but no QSOs. Worked KH6LC. That was it for 40. 80M
seemed OK for stations as far west as N9RV. Called W7OM on 80 with no results
in NA. Otherwise, worked everyone I heard on 80, but couldn't make up for
almost a bust on 40. Is it time to drop 20M as a band for the winter? Or
maybe wait until Dec. I will try to be QRV on Nov 28 in the practice session
as PJ4/K4BAI. I guess a lot of guys missed the local time change. Remember
next week, the time is still 0230 UTC, one hour earlier local time for most of
us. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.
