Hi
Well, that turned out to be quite a fun contest, although there didn't seem to
be many from the US in here. Strangely conditions to the east from here
seemed quite good with HS in the log on both 15 and 20 and two YBs at 59 on 20.
TS2000 with 100W and Inverted Vs for 20/40 (and 15) and an Inv L for 80 which
also gets tuned up with an ATU for all other bands (and is _sometimes_ much
better than the dipole to some people). 14 hours operating
band Qs points cty sec
3.5 45 90 20 0
7 119 241 33 6
14 190 405 37 1
21 48 101 15 0
402 837 105 7
score 93,744
I was well pleased to work my own country (twice), it's a while since I had a
GM in the log!
My exchange gave me a slightly unexpected problem, particularly when S&P:
RX: gm8oeg ur 599 123 123 123
TX: TU 599 AG AG AG
RX: gm8oeg UR 599 123 123 123
TX: TU 599 AG AG AG
RX: gm8oeg UR 599 123.....
Several times I had to resort to:
TU, I HAVE YOUR 123 MY COUNTY AG MY COUNTY AG AG AG
after which there was a pause for thinking time followed by:
TU 73 QRZ...
There seemed a higher proportion of annoying macros:
i) Yet again its a nuisance to only receive the exchange twice. One gets
corrupted, which one is right? I _always_ ask for a repeat unless I see two
matching copies. I seemed to have to do that a lot this time.
ii) When I have to ask Nr? Nr? and the other end sends it just once. OR when
I ask for Nr? Nr? I get
gm8oeg de blah blah blah ur 599 599 <fades into the noise>......
PLEASE have a macro with JUST the number say 6 times and send that.
iii) why do so many people start a run response with gm8oeg de blah blah?
Strangely, after having held it for >35 years I already know my own call.
iv) general verbal diarrohea:
CQ TEST CQ TEST DE BLAHBLAH PSE PRETTY PLEASE K WON'T YOU?
v) Sending CQ BLAH BLAH BLAH K
so that when I tune in half way through I don't know whether you're CQing or
calling someone.
vi) sending the exchange separated by dash not space so that UOS doesn't
activate.
It's a while since I've been able to be as active as I like in rtty contests
and I'm realising how much I missed it, so thanks for all the QSOs!! (Even if
I do sound like a grumpy old man in the above)
