It was a great contest with lots of activity. There were a lot of new
stations discovering the great group of operators who enjoy RTTY. Welcome
aboard. Did you know that there are people like AA5AU Don and GU0SUP Phil and
countless other operators, with or without websites, who constantly provide
help so we may improve our skills?
I was pleased to see so many friends and familiar callsigns. DX to EU was a
bit disappointing. I managed to work all 48 states, DC, plus Alaska and
Hawaii for the first time. Power output was about 500 watts on all bands
except 10 meters. My amplifier just does not like my 10 meter antennas and
keeps tripping out. It seems that 50 watts into my vertical worked as well as
my beam, but many stations could not hear my weak signal on 10 meters. I hope
most of you copied my call correctly. I saw it coming back as VE6HR, CE6YR,
WE6YR to name a few, even when I tried to correct them. A couple of DX
stations did not like my 599 AB exchange and insisted on my serial number.
Lots of competition for frequencies. I was crowded out several times, but that
is the way it goes. One station must have thought this was the sprint where
you make one call, then QSY. He answered my CQ, then he started calling CQ. I
moved to another band and a few minutes later, he tried it again, without
success.
Thanks to our sponsor, ARRL, and to all those who participated in the
contest.
