In the UK we can apply for a contest call in addition to our normal call.
The contest call can be used in any recognised contest run by a club or
society but not for normal ragchewing.
The only requirement is to get some decent scores from a list of big
contests over a 3 year period. Once you have enough points, you can apply
for the short contest call. Then it has to be renewed every few years, again
with a list of contest results.
It changes with the UK country, so I hold G0A, but have only used GW0A and
GD0A (look for GD0A in the 2018 SARTG please!)
Special event calls are something different and generally only cover a
one-off event or maybe a series of events.
And I can add my thanks to David for 2Tone!

Just curious about something, David. Do you have both calls assigned
permanently? Here in the Colonies only one permanent license is allowed at
a time, but one can get a temporary authorization for a special call sign
for a limited time.
And thanks again for giving us 2Tone. A marvelous piece of work!
