I recently replaced our second floor heat pump system in a home remodeling
project. I explained to the GC, in plain English, that I didn't want a
replacement unit that would cause interference to my Ham radios.
He brought in an HVAC sub who was ready to listen to my request for the
replacement system not to include ECMs for variable speed air flow, but a
multi-speed (discrete speeds) controller. So far I've detected no new RFI; the
old stuff is still on 80M.
Check with Steve W1EMI at ARRL for further assistance. He also helped me select
AFCI breakers that are less likely to trip due to RF pickup by house wiring,
but that's an entirely separate subject.
Good luck.
