Before we all go off and yell three cheers for the "CE" designation, let us
consider the fact
that in the great bulk of cases, manufacturers self assign this designation
after merely filing
a report with the CE commission. The report filed is not checked for veracity,
merely completeness,
and will collect dust unless a catastrophic problem is noted with the equipment
and the
definition of catastrophic does not include making noises in our amateur gear.
While it may provide some value in litigious situations, the CE sticker in and
of itself
guarantees only that the manufacturer was aware that they needed to file the
report and
that they could spring for the fee.
It is amazing the number of devices that claim FCC part 15 compliance in the
US. That and
the CE sticker mean approximately the same: bupkus.
