Due to incoming Hurricane Charley I will not be posting to the "Propagation
Reflector" today. I expect to lose my broadband Internet connection
and power later today and would not be able to approve posts for a while.
Hopefully AD1C will be able to cover for me!
I just saw the first feeder band from Hurricane Charley at 5:30 am. I measured
a SSW wind at 17G30 mph and rain. The B.P. is 29.88" and falling from a high of
29.97".
The latest forecast track for Charley has shifted back to the west which will
allow a 14+ foot storm surge to enter Tampa Bay. If this track is realized this
will pretty much destroy downtown Tampa. 1,000,000+ people are being ordered to
evacuate in the Tampa Bay region this morning.
Though Hurricane Charley is officially a CAT 2, at the moment Key West NWS
NEXRAD radar is measuring winds into the CAT 4 range. My fear since yesterday
is that it will reach a borderline CAT 4 cyclone before landfall. Much of Tampa
Bay, especially Pinellas and Hillsborough County's will see wind gusts in
excess of 120 mph today.
I weathered Hurricane Alicia in Galveston in 1983 and Hurricane Andrew in Miami
in 1992 so I know what's fixing to happen here in the Tampa Bay area, most
people don't.
