>Now the real question is... If you want to enable Outgoing & Incoming Nat,
&
>DHCP do you have to Enable Bridging to get that to work?
no
>We have about 19
>locations that have Outgoing/Incoming & DHCP enabled and DON'T have
Bridging
>or IP Routing Enabled...
that is correct
>Is that the way it should work??
yes
>Because the last 2 customers we ran into
>some problems..
>On one of the installs we had to Enable Bridging and give the PC a public
IP
>to get it to work.
will, if you're doing NAT, you can't give the PC a public IP
>The one yesterday we had to Enable Bridging, Enable Outgoing NAT & DHCP.
And
>everything started working...
and it will soon lock up
>Im not sure if anyone else has seen this.
the most common error, causing this problem is if under IP setup, you forget
to input a default router IP
the unit will work as a transparent bridge in this scenario, b/c the default
router is set at the PC end
a rather silly mistake, but still deadly
>I guess I would like to hear from Doug or Kevin from Karlnet about
this.....
actually, Doug and Kevin are busy people, it's the responsibility of your
KarlNet reseller to fully support you
>What is the proper way to setup the CPE.
>We use RG-1000 or RG-1100 with SR-4000's installed.
>We use Outgoing NAT & DHCP so that the user doesn't have to setup a IP or
>know anything about it.
>Anyway... has anyone else seen this?
yes
>Or how do you setup your RGs to do this??
well, here's two examples - open your configurators, and go to (these are
live ISP customers of mine, so if you #$#$% the settings, or modify them in
any way, I will hunt you down and scalp you)
sample NAT config
ip: 65.211.183.55
password: public
sample IP Routing config (/29)
ip: 65.211.183.52
password: public
>What is the correct way??
see above
another reason why your choice of KarlNet vendor is probably one of the most
important decisions that you make (hint: me)
otherwise, I guess you wait until some kind soul takes pity on you
