That's what we've decided as well. Amps are out....high power cards next to
the antennas are in.
I don't mind climbing up 500' to fix things...only had to do it 2 times in 2
years. Not to bad.

I agree as well.. they all have their problems.
Going forward, we are only using high powered cards in all newly deployed
systems.

Subject: [Karlnet] Re: Amps
I'd have to disagree. I have a bunch of YDI amps that have given me
nothing but trouble. We have tried YDI, Hyperlink, Teletronics and RF
Linx. We have removed all the YDI amps from the system.
I have 2 Teletronics amps that have been removed from the system. They
each have lost their receive gain.
I now have 3 Hyperlink amps that quit when they get too hot.
Of the rest, they are about 50/50 between RF Linx and Hyperlink.
I have never had a RF Linx amp fail.
We use top mounted amps on any location that we would not want to climb
in bad weather. If it is safe to climb in wind/rain/snow and their is
power available we mount our radio gear on top. At this time we no
longer use POE for access points.
As to a high power KN-50, why not just put a 200mW card in it? If you
run max antenna gain, (24db) and a 200mW, (23.5db) card you will be just
under legal power (47.5db US) for a PtP link.
