Sorry Kevin and Bob. You are both correct. In an ISP network, it
sounds great. I agree that Point to Multipoint is a great platform for
wireless, especially when TurboCell is used. I think I am still reeling
from the fact that my Orinoco equipment may never see the great white
hope that is 5.x GHZ 802.11a, noise floor will always cloud my days, and
I may have to call Motorola. Wait. I have a Canopy shot. It has
really bad firmware issues. Maybe I'll just go back to TCP/IP over
carrier pigeon. :-/ That or start investing in KN100. Anyone know a
good reseller?

I would also disagree that a laptop is the best client for wireless. I
depends on your application- Point to Multipoint fixed wireless can
support entire networks- a laptop cannot.

Do you retract the statement about 802.11a not being PCMCIA compatible?
Would seem like a wasted market to anyone with a laptop then, which,
coincidentally, is the best client for wireless.

All,
The real delay is waiting for two things:
1. The newest chipset from Atheros.
2. Further development of our driver. When we did 802.11b with the Agere
cards, we basically overwrote parts of their driver. Atheros requires
you to write your own driver, from the bottom up! So there is a lot of
tweaking to be done. Good news- gives us control of the radio to the
MICROSECOND! Which is great for TurboCell. Bad news- takes time to get
it just right.

As far as I am aware, the current Karlnet 4.3 does not support 802.11a
yet. It is in development and has an unslated release, although I
suspect sometime soon, as the manuals for their software and the
settings in the firmware all indicate it is available. Probably waiting
to see what drivers become the industry standard. (Orinoco? Prism?....
Hmmmm)
