Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am in the process of setting up CT 8.53 for the ZL9CI expedition.

Under MS-DOS 6.20 with XMS support (HIMEM.SYS loaded) and EMS support
(EMM386.SYS active) I am unable to get more than 22,000 QSOs. This won't
be enough to hold the ZL9CI log. My PC is an old 386 with 8 Megs of RAM.

Removing EMS support (and even XMS) makes no difference. In fact, QSO
space increases to 25k QSOs due to a slight increase in base memory (no
memory managers loaded). From this I am getting the impression CT 8.53
won't use extended/expanded memory at all. Even on other machines (a 486
laptop with 4 Megs, my work PC with 20 Mbytes of RAM) ) I still get only
22000....25000 QSOs in DX-pedition mode.

Unfortunately I biffed my 8.53 stuff for 9.xx a couple of years ago. The
version 9
manual has a few things to say about memory but that may not apply to 8.53.
The DXpedition manual for 8.53 is in transit and it would be nice to get to the
bottom of this little problem ahead of time...

Could someone enlighten me as to how to increase QSO space on 8.53?
N5KO tells me his 486 notebook will take 100k+ QSOs running version 8.43,
which is the sort of thing I need. Version 8.53 appears to be using a Zortec
loader, whatever that is.

Any pointers appreciated.

Wilbert, ZL2BSJ
