It was long ago, so maybe that wasn't required then.  All I know is that 
I didn't use the email anywhere else.
Anyone else get spam from "Mason Shoes" , or some such thing?

The shoe salesman has to do a lot to get to your email address
For example, QRZ:
  * He has to be a member
  * He has to have a callsign to look up
  * He has to mouse over the e-maill address in order to see it. 
    Non-members cannot do this.
I don't think the shoe salesman would make it through all that. Plus, 
it is a lot of stuff to do just for one address. I think he would 
spend his time and effort on a list that he would have to buy from 
another source.
