Yep, some older sound cards do this, but a BIG source of this is a CD
player, especially one operated by remote. Thing doesn't have to be
playing, or turned on, just plugged in.

Let's see, last time I saw this was in a Lincoln Town Car about 1999
or so. System was mounted in the trunk and accessed remotely.
