Conclusions:
There is a plethora of categories for the SINGLE OPERATOR to chose from.
There is a paucity of categories for MULTI OPERATOR groups to chose
from.
The addition of a SINGLE new category, MULTI -operator ONE-transmitter
would bridge the gap between one operator efforts and the large
multi-operator
efforts required to staff a competitive entry in Multi "Single" and
Multi-Multi.
I like the analogy to skulling categories where they have 1, 2, 4, and 8
man boats.
SO, SOA = 1 operator
M/S = 4 or more operators for most entrants.
MM= 8 or more operators for most entrants.
M/O fills the gap nicely with 2 or more operators.
Multi ONE is a popular category in the ARRL DX Contests,
both in the USA and for DX stations.
The results of the 1997 ARRL DX contests show the following
approximate breakdown by categories:
Single Operator (all categories) 62%
Single Operator Assisted 15%
Multi-op ONE transmitter 13%
Multi-op TWO transmitter 6+%
Multi-op Multi-transmitter 3+%
There were a number of M/O entries from Europe and Japan
and a few two man DXpediton entries, just to work USA and VE!
Think how much more enticing a Multi ONE category would be
to DXpeditions, and non-USA stations in the World Wide competitions.
BTW, I noted the JA (and one UA0) entries were all from club stations.
Isn't this the kind of participation that we want to ENCOURAGE?
It's time to add a Multi-operator ONE-transmitter category to the
CQ WW DX Contests. If you support this idea, please send a
note to Bob Cox K3EST and the CQ Contest Committee.
