Due to limited available time last weekend, I was only able to get on for a
very short stretch. (Sorry gang, but family does come first, even if they
don't always believe it)
So I had to chuckle when the following occurred (call and SN changed to protect
the clueless):
Me: XX4QST, QSL, Five Nine, Number Zero Zero Six
Them: Your number? Your number?
Me: SIX. ZERO ZERO SIX. SIX.
Them: Your number Six? Your number Six?
(Well, even late Friday evening/early Saturday morning depending on the local
time, hearing that low a SN can be odd. Shouldn't be, but never mind that)
Me: ROGER ROGER ROGER.
Them: Number Six. OK. Wait. You sure you're not a dupe?
Now, I may not be the crusty old f... timer that some are, but I have been
around a while. I do think that if I've worked under 10 stations, I can be
pretty certain that they're NOT dupes. But maybe that's just me.

Everyone was on one end or the other of the "you're a dupe"/"no I'm not"/"I

hurts rate to have the conversation never mind the effort of spotting the
busted call several thousand QSO's ago in a big log - a job that I'm glad
is the logcheckers, and not mine!
I love the way the CQ WW FAQ talks about dupes. I strongly recommend that
this wording be plagiarized for every contest:
Q: Should I work and log duplicates? How are they counted by the log
checking?
A: Yes! Please log all contacts that you make even if they are duplicates.
