N4PN used the same style QSL as did he and I for our first DX trip for CQ WW CW in 1967 as TG0AA from Guatemala.  73, John K4BAI

I thought DU7SV's QSL was the best design ever. I still do. It took me a long

I have one from VE7SV in the same style.

I stand corrected by several stations via private messages. The station in
question was DU7SV not DS7.

I worked him on 15M with a Knight Kit Spanmaster regen rcvr and a new to me.
DX40 feeding a dipole at perhaps 15 feet. I bought the DX40, which had a big
dent in the front panel, for the sum of $12. It took me many hours over the
course of several days using a powdered cleaner and water on a scrap of window
glass to grind a crystal up into the 15M Novice segment from a freq well below
it.

Tnx for the correction.

No DX on 80.  I ventured to 40 once or twice, but that's all.  No 15, either.

DX in the Novice bands?  I'll bet many of you have DS7SV in those old logs. He
spent massive amounts of time giving Novices their 1st serious DX Q's. QSL card had
a nice green background with his calling in a white/cream script font across the
face. Great and very patient op.

Those were the days.

I too often heard that K5BIJ call on the air.
I also heard and called that K7HFX guy from CZ - was that Central Arizona?

Writing up my 3830scores report for Sprint CW, I reminded myself of this
story.

In the mid-1960s, in a CW CD Party, on 40M I was called by "K5BIJ".  I sent him my
report, but it took Katashe several tries for me to get his call correctly.  I was astounded.
Back then I didn't know it was possible to work Hawaii on 40M from Maryland.

My antenna was a dipole.  Pretty sure rcvr was my RME-4350 (maybe the "A"
version), and that I had already upgraded the xmtr from the BC-459 to a
second-hand Viking Ranger.
