Since there were several messages after the CW Sweepstakes about how there
were few people QRV that were licensed in recent years, I pulled out some
information that may be of interest. Note the years below are year-of-birth
not year-first-licensed (as is exchanged in the SS).
Summary numbers are that the average new ham is 38, the average upgrader
is 44 and the overall average age for all hams in the FCC database is 50.
The figures below are only for Extra/Advanced/General class licensees since
most people work few Techs or Novices in CW SS.
Note the peak in 1921 (age 72) and then two peaks in 1942 (51) and 1947 (46).

Well the PW station ran about 2 solid hours with the
following results.
41 Q's 28 Multipliers with a bonus multiplier of 2
for a grand total of 2296 points. Conditions to Europe
were poor at best ...... we'll do it again next time.
