A resistor in place of the choke is not a good idea. If the blocking cap shorts,
the resistor will almost certainly blow open and you are right where you were if
there was nothing there at all. A choke will almost certainly blow the AC fuse
and/or the glitch resistor and remove B+ from the output connector.
It goes without saying - or should - that the choke has to be mode of husky
enough wire to do the job without opening.
