Bob, this is soooooo true. Someone here recently said they would never
build an amp for 6 meters using a pair of 3-500 tubes. Someone who never
experienced a pair of 3-500 tubes on 6 meters may simply "put it in their

that if someone offered an amp built for 6 meters around a pair of 3-500's
i.e..
converted Sb-220. That person may NEVER consider buying one offered buy an
experienced builder who can make a pair of 3-500's "shine" on 6 meters. To go
one step further, how about a pair of 572B tubes on 6 meters? HUH? No way
you say? Gentlemen....you sitting on the fence, let me tell you from
experience. A pair of 3-500's make a real nice 6 meter amp and a pair of
572B's make
a good 6 meter amp. Are there better choices, yes, should you NOT consider
the aforementioned? NOT AT ALL! Constructed properly, a pair of 3-500's or
572's can make very good economical amps. Granted, they can be tricky to work
with compared to an 8877 or 3cx800 on 6 meters, but done correctly they can
play real nice. But like anything else, their are better piano players than
others.
The opinion of the poster who would never build up a 6 meter amp around
3-500's has his opinion and perhaps would opt for a different tube (if he was
building). What about the guy looking for a 6 meter amp? Should he turn up a
nice converted Sb-220 or Sb-200 DONE RIGHT because he was swayed by this
poster. I don't think so. Good ol' Hank would love to lighten you up $3K for
his 6 meter amp. But a pair of 3-500's for less than a third of that....not
to
