If you look at commercial products such as tuners and amps that uses
stacked powdered iron cores they are individually wrapped first. This
has also been suggested in amateur construction articles for a few
decades now.
Since powdered iron cores are painted the reasoning is that you dont
want to take a chance of an insulation breakdown ( physical from the
pressure of a tightly taped stack) and non linearities occuring.
Ferrites usually being "naked" dont need that precaution.
