I would strongly advise against measuring non-current limited amplifier
plate voltages in the kV region with the standard Simpson 260.
The internal and external flash-over distances are not sufficiently long for
any safety margins, and hairline cracks, dust and dirt may create stray
current leakage paths.
In the 60's, there was a fatal accident at my 'Alma Mater' ,Chalmers Univ.
of Tech., when a research engineer tried to monitor the cavity voltage of a
large Klystron using a Simpson multimeter, which flashed over to his body
through the phenolic case.
When measuring plate voltages, a properly insulated voltage divider made of
many series connected high-voltage resistor is the recommended method.

Howdy Steve........
This should give you all the info you need:

I have a Simpson 260, Series 5. What I don't have is the manual for it.
What I'd most like to know is what accuracy it's rated for on the 5000 volt
scales, both AC and DC. I believe the meter is rated for 2% of full scale
accuracy up to 1000 volts DC and 3% on AC, but I haven't been able to track
down a number for the HV scales.
Your help, as always, is appreciated!
