For future reference, my search for sources of plate transformers has yielded
two sources for new transformers, and two who will rewind an existing unit.
Harbach will build you a new 1214 for $750+ shipping with delivery occuring
4 weeks ARO.
Magnespec in California will also build new units, and in later years Henry
apparently purchased from them. The 1214 Price there is $875+ shipping.
Interestingly, a group order of 5 nets a pretty good discount at $637.50. They
will also build the smaller 1171 for the same price. An order of 5 will drop it
to $550 each. Delivery is 6-8 weeks ARO.
Transformer Rewinding Service in Orono, Maine, and will rewind the 1214 for
$471.00+ shipping. Contact there is Gary, and I believe he is a ham.
Mercury Magnetics in Chatsworth, CA. will also rewind an existing unit. Sergio
there is a ham, and said that prices quoted by other folks here are inline with
the industry standard since copper and iron has gone up so much.
Should anyone be interested in a group purchase for the 1171, I would be
interested in participating.
