Actually, the problem with 10 watt zeners is they are close to max. in
this application.
8 volts x 800 ma +200 ma. grid current = almost the 10 watt rating of
the diode. This assumes
max power at full bore blowing the socks off the amplifier.
Any excursion from that value does bad things.A 50 watt zener is much
more betterer
for biasing. Or equivalent current ratings in in a diode string. The
total current should be
the consideration.
Been there done that with SB-220 and TL-922A..
