Of course -- there are many different ferrite mixes from the same and
different manufacturers, and sizes and shapes of cores made from those
mixes, just as there are many different kinds of capacitors, resistors,
inductors, tubes, and semiconductors. The proper application of each to a
particular function in a product or system is part of the designer's job.
My points, and K5PRO's points, and W8JI's points, are 1) that if you
don't understand the complexity of design problem, you can easily shoot
yourself in the foot; and 2) to aid in understanding the design problem.
It's no different from understanding issues like breakdown voltage,
temperature characteristics, ESR, and dissipation capabilities in a
capacitor.
