grid damage. It is flaking of the emissive oxide coating off of the
cathode. Cathode flakes often lodge between the cathode and grid,
creating a fatal short. An autopsy photograph of this malady can be
found on p.17 of "Parasitics Revisited", `September, 1990 *QST*.
