Hi Bill,
In the SSB position with a properly calibrated Bird meter and 100
watt exciter, you should see around 1100 or 1200 watts if the
power line the amp is connected to is a reasonably good
residential line.
In the CW position, about 800 watts or so.
Of course this will vary a bit, because of tolerances in meters. It
also assumes the SB220 input is properly aligned and the exciter
is delivering a full 100 watts.
It takes about 3400 volts full load voltage on a pair of 3-500Z to get
1500 watts out with 100 watts of drive in typical reasonably well
constructed amplifiers, so the 220 is always quite noticeably down
from that value unless you have a liberal-reading power meter.
The factory rated tolerance in a Bird 43 that is within spec with a
2500 watt slug is + or - 125 watts anywhere on the scale.
