[Amps] MLA-2500 tank circuit questions

Happy New Year Carl et al:

I also feel that the Dentron amp power supplies were marginal at best . I think 
back though to an article in QST from the 70's where the reviewer claims that 
the specimen 2500 Denny brought to the ARRL Lab "promptly put the needle of a 
Bird 43 meter with a 2500 watt HF element in the peg position!"
Any thoughts on that? Suppose the demo amp was a ringer, or just a case of 
short term abuse to make a good splash for the review?
