Fans last longer when in cool air. If filtered the high pressure side will keep dust out. The list can go on and on. The important point I wanted to make was when a fan is added to a system with an existing fan, the greatest boost occurs when the new fan is on the inlet. This assume of course the fan is properly sized and the second air mover is far enough away (a few inches normally) to not force turbulent air directly into the impeller of the original fan.
