Hello Denis:

I have seen many HV supplies using similar oil filled caps, however not this
specific model. The oil filled cap is a reasonable approach to your needs.
However, my suggestion to you is to also at least review pricing and
physical size of available electrolytic capacitors. I just took a quick
look at the available stock carried by Mouser Electronics in the USA. For
far less money you can obtain a group of ten electrolytics that will provide
68 uf at 4500 VDC for $116.40, as compared to the $299 for the oil filled.
They will be of a smaller physical size, far less expensive and it might fit
your application, the details of which I know nothing!

Here is the item I thought might be suitable, ten in series:

Mouser Part #:
80-ELH687M450AT8AA
Manufacturer Part #:
ELH687M450AT8AA
Manufacturer:
Kemet
Description: Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Snap In 680uF 450V 20%
85C Snap in 35x60

To the un-initiated, these look like an elegant solution to my HV smoothing
capacitor requirement. Perhaps too elegant a solution. Am I missing
something? If anyone has an opinion, or direct experience of using these,
commentary would be appreciated.

If they are any good, any info on cheaper sources (or any for sale in the
UK) would also be good.
