Very enjoyable contest. Had a number of contacts that could really
have been considered QSO's especially on 75. Excellent way to compare
station performance with everyone running low power. Thanks to K1VUT
for putting together a local team. 73, Bob WT1O

Subject: V31TP QRV in ARRL DX-CW contest
Message-ID: <9701231004.AA0027@localhost>

There will once again be a SMC expedition to Belize for the ARRL DX
CW contest. John Patterson (WC0W/V31TP), I (NS0B/V31EV) and possibly
Bob Schwerdlin (WG9L/V31RC) will be going to Belize for a week, to
include the CW 'test. We will try to be on the air by mid-late
afternoon local time on Feb 12 (Wed) and will take down on Feb 18
(Tues). We will be a multi-single entry in the contest and do as
much operating as time permits, both CW and SSB but mainly CW,
before and after the contest. We will be doing some touristing &
sightseeing as well so it will not be a continuous operation except
for the contest.

Look for activity as V31TP in the contest and with any/all of the
individual call signs outside the contest. Activity will be limited
to 160/80/40/20/15/10 with NO WARC band operation likely, since our
trapped vertical and tribander do not support WARC bands and there
isn't room at our planned operating site for additional wires.

QSL via the appropriate call as indicated above.

Comments: How things change in a week! Murphy followed me around
for a solid 12 hrs! First, my power supply started acting up. Would
drop down to 10.5 volts and blank out my freq. display. Turn it off for
a while and it starts working again. No problem, I'll switch to my
battery backup. Oops, battery has not been charged for 6 months and
reads 11.5 volts. Okay, charge the battery with my 10 amp charger and
let it charge during receive. Heck, still drops down to 10.5 volts! My
sister calls and her car battery is dead (nothing wants to stay at 12
volts!) so, even though I've already used over an hour of off time in the
first three hours, I go help her out. Get back and figure battery should
be charged up a little by now. Darn, after five minutes, starts dropping
to 10.5 volts again! Find out Sunday that the battery has a bad cell.
It will never see 12 volts again! Couldn't get a run going on any
frequency so I just s&p'd trying to keep transmitting to a minimum.
Anyway, I'm ready for the 160 mtr test this weekend. Got the supply
fixed, I hope, but if it goes again, I got a fully charged backup battery
ready! Three antennaes to choose from thsi weekend. Oh, by the way, did
I tell you that my dad is in the hospital and may have surgery friday or
saturday.............If everything goes well, see you all this weekend!

Subject: Mad Rover RC NAQP SSB Team Scores
Message-ID: <19970123003503.AAA4196@LOCALNAME>

I put together the "Mad Rover Radio Club" team consisting of the
owner/operators of the 5 stations where I do my SS roving:

     K8MR 195 104 20,280
     AC8E 185 89 16,465
     N8TR 116 65 7,540
     K8RM 104 48 4,896
     W8AJ 75 31 2,325

All were part time efforts around the usual busy schedules, and in my case,
also the VHF SS. My main goal was to get neophyte contesters K8RM and W8AJ
on the air, which was met.

I thought conditions were quite poor. Low bands very long, and nothing
exciting about the high bands.

Comments: It was fun working the SSB Phone Contest. However I like CW
better because
less QRM. (AD4PU); I thought working phone was great for my first contest
although it was
sometimes hard to tell who was who - (KE4RHU.)
