Comments, loudest signals etc..
This was a part time effort on Saturday. Many nice signals from
Africa, Indian Ocean and SE Asia. JA's were weak, only a few were
over the S5 mark. The band was open to South America the complete
day, nice signals from LU, PY and PT0F of course.
Around 12z the band opened to W/VE with good signals, many east
coasters were around S9, with K1AR beeing the strongest at S9+10.
But after 16z signals from the US east became weak, even the Big
Guns like N2RM, W3LPL etc.. lost several S-Units. Later then, around
18z, the band opened to the US Mid-West with good signals. Guys like
K0RF, W0UN, NA5B were peaking S9 sometimes while the W1/2/3's were S5~S7.
But the opening did not extend to Zone 3 for me, worked only N6AW and heard
just 2 more west coasters...
Strongest Sigs:
US East: K1AR, at least 1 S-unit stronger than others.
US South East: K4ISV, followed by W4MYA. Both had really good signals.
US Mid-west: K0RF, NA5B, followed by W0UN.
Even with a small ant, the contest was fun. Could work some DX on the
first call like 8Q7, SU2, PT0.. but most times it took more patience..))
Impressive to hear, how fast PT0F and A61AC were running!
Surprise, even in these modern times of ALC controlled Amps etc..
some (very few) guys can make 15kHz of the band unusable with their
splatter.
