Congratulations to Bill, V31XX on a fine effort
The plan for this weekend was for my wife and I to do an M/2 onsite. I was to
finish the remaining antenna work before hand. Instead, she contracted Covid
and did not feel up to travel. Hs is doing better now.
The remote was not setup for SSB so I had someone connect a cable for me to
cobble together a solution. Took some reconfiguration, but the first serious
remote SSB operation from there ultimately worked flawlessly.
The fatal flaw occurred at the 7:30 mark of the contest. Felt good about the 10
meter number. 15 produced, but never felt that strong. 20 was better and was
still producing decent rate. However with only 2.5 hours left, and no Q's on
40, 80 or 160, I thought I needed to save time for those bands. On the CW
weekend, the lowbands got batter as the night wore on. From past experience, I
knew being so far away would make 80 and 160 a challenge. I choses to take a
break and forgo the 20 meter rate to help the lowband mults later.
As it turns out, 80 never got better and was not worth sacrificing rate. Just
too far away to break through the stateside QRM. Even 40 was a struggle and the
last hour was brutal.
Live and learn. Still a lot of fun in a contest that I did not plan to operate
as recently as two days before.
Thanks for the Q's
