Comments:
Not the rate fest I thought it would be earlier in the week. Contest started
with s9+30 rain static on all bands, but that only lasted for the first 10
minutes. But it was a bad omen for the rest of the contest.
For overall bad conditions, it was interesting nonetheless. The worst was in
the mornings when the bands just didn't open. Sunday morning was the worst --
20 was totally absorbed and I got beat out calling stateside. 15 was weird --
periods when it was just hiss and then 15 minutes later full of signals.
But nighttime propagation was quite interesting. I never worked a lot of JA's
on 15, to put it mildly. But the band was open to deeper Asia a few hours after
it got dark. And it did open direct path to EU on Sunday, with at least the top
layer signals getting through.
Everything worked fine and there was no bad weather or crazy crises here. We all
got suckered by conditions earlier in the week and were dreaming of operating a
high sunspot contest after all these years. But it didn't happen.
