Comments:
During the winter, I lost my 80m rotatable dipole and the reflector on my 40m 2
ele blew away, so I was left with a rotatable dipole on 40m, and a make-shift,
non-resonant inverted vee for 80m. I decided to operate this one as Low Power,
knowing that I could not compete with the big boys this time around.
My 20m antenna (Force 12 C4XL tribander) is working fine, and so 20m went very
well -- in fact, it stayed very usable for a long time, and I spent nearly 2
hours here. In hindsight, I should have gone to 40 sooner. That said, about 15
minutes into the contest, it started to rain and I had S9+20 rain static that I
could not get rid of with the noise blanker, so I was a bit deaf until that
settled down. Throughout the contest, though, I had at least S7 hash on all
bands. Others I talked to heard it, too, so it was not local noise.
Fortunately, many of you Sprinters have good signals and I just worked through
it.
I worked EVERY mult I heard. Sadly, I know there were several WY stations on,
but I never heard or worked one. My list of missed mults: SD, DC, HI, AK, NV,
WY, MB, NS, NU, PE, YT
No SO2R here. Had two band changes... 20 to 40, then to 80.
Fun contest, lots of activity, never felt like I ran out of stations to work.
That said, I would prefer to have decent antennas on all bands, and have the amp
running. I do not like missing all the jump balls! :-)
