Comments:
I operated only a few hours the first evening as I am thoroughly
distracted by my SDR phased array receiver project. I finally got
enough stuff working on the new board (an Avnet UltraZed if anyone
cares) to create some momentum.
I did try to pursue 3B8M on 10 meters but I missed them screwing with
getting the K3S to emit some power on that band. Power cycling the
radio seemed to cure its intransigence.
Saturday evening I pursued 3B8M on 160. About 30 minutes before their
sunrise, they were just a whisper. About 20 minutes before their
sunrise I could hear them well enough to attempt a call, and they came
right back for a new 160 entity. After a few more minutes they were
quite loud, at one point almost 20db over the background noise.
All of the separate components of the phased array system seem to work
on the new board. Now all that remains is to put the board in a box,
finish a power supply, build some more receivers, finish programming
the FPGA for all the receivers, and configure the software pieces
parts into a working system. Maybe by the Stew Perry test I'll have
all of the old PC-based stuff moved to the new hardware, which is
necessary since the monitor to the old PC died and I don't want to
spend any money adapting that old PC to modern video. Meanwhile the
ARRL 160 test looms and one of the elements of the Europe facing
phased array has a bad feedline. Fun!
