One-Day Expedition to Lassen County on Saturday.

I was with the K6T Tehama County team on Friday for setup, and I operated the
K6T station for about 5 hours overnight Saturday night / Sunday morning.
In Lassen County, I operated at the edge of a 22 degree downslope toward the
USA.
I got a late start on Saturday morning. My Acom 1010 keying connector got
damaged and dislodged from the chassis, ruling out high power. Then my K3
developed an "ERR 12V" message off and on throughout the day. I made
some QSOs with 10W and others with 100W.
I was shocked to make EU QSOs with this setup. I thought I was too late for the
EU opening on Saturday until G3WGN called me. Then SP5SA called in. Then
OM2VL. And then HA9RE and DL3DXX at almost noon local time. I couldn't believe
it.
Most of my 40m QSOs were with W7, which was OK because it gave them the
opportunity to log Lassen on CW when otherwise it is difficult for them on 20m.
K9CT called in very early on 40m at about 2:30pm local time with a great
signal.
But it was another hour and a half before others could hear me east of W0. 40m
seemed to open east later this year than last year.
I operated Assisted because I looked at my SNR readings from RBN to determine
how and where I was being heard.
I operated less than the driving time and setup/teardown time required! But I
hope it gave stations an extra county that they needed.
