Comments:
I used the name Red in honor of K5ALU who recently became a SK. I've known Red
for about 20 years, dating back to when we both lived in Springfield, MO in the
early 2000s. Red operated a bunch of times during our multi multi operations at
K5GO and spent countless hours on station work on the mountain. If you've ever
had a rag chew contact then you've probably met Red. A few times we would car
pool from Springfield down to the mountain station on work weekends. While
driving, Red could simultaneously have a rag chew CW contact and an in person
verbal contact. His CW skills were something that I've always admired.
Sometimes the word would get out that Red was going to operate using the call
sign K5GO during a contest. It was a real hoot when several guys would call in
on various bands and say, "Hi Red."
Red must have been one of the first guys to do remote operations. He set up
some kind of Kenwood rig at our station on the mountain and would use it at
times. This would have been probably around 2005.
Red always had a great attitude and was just a fun guy to be around. He will
for sure be missed by many.
73,
Kevin, N5DX/ZF9DX
