Half as many Europeans on 160-80-40 as last year, way less
on 15. JA way down on the relevant bands, first time in years
to not work JA on 75 phone. About same QSO totals as 2019,
but way down on the multipliers, especially on the lower bands.
We low powered guys surely miss the Multi op stations and the
many easy multipliers they offered.
Problems:
40m yagi - went bad at beginning of ARRL DX CW. Appears to be
a top of tower problem. Backup Hygain yagi still not working
after repairs this fall.
While troubleshooting 40m yagi problems, messed up homebrew
kluge connector on main RG-17 coax to tower, replaced with
250 feet of 9913 water hose for use by second radio.
YCCC RX array - very noisy compared with transmitting antennas,
very weak signals. Not usable.
Bad problem intermittent receiver noise into both rigs (caused
by ground loop??) Spent two hours tracking down the reason for
broadband impulse noise on both radios - the aha moment came when
I observed the busy light on Yaesu blinking in time with the noise.
When the Icom is selected by the DXDoubler, the VOX in the
Yaesu is momentarily triggered through the microphone connector
from the DXD. Obviously not a problem in CW because I don't
have any microphone cables hooked up. Solution TBD.
Icom 7610 still overloading on received signals in dead bands!
