*Non-Assisted 40m SO Single Band LP entry*
CW: missed only NT, NU and YT
SSB: missed PEI, NT, NU and YT
Found 8 RAC 20-point stations: VA2 VA3 VE4 VE6 VE7 VO1 VO2 VY2
Had 96 additional (10-point) Canadian QSOs [59 CW/37 SSB] ... Always nice to
work many of our good neighbors to the North!
Band conditions at the outset Fri night were quite poor with weak signals and
low activity. After first hour took a break, returned for somewhat improved
conditions in 03Z hour with band shortening up as well to allow working
closer-in stations which was nice.
Sat conditions were MUCH improved. Best hour was 14-1500Z (40 QSOs). Great CW
activity especially, and fun to work Eu DX Sat too by mid-afternoon. Crossed the
200 QSO threshold by 20:50Z and kept it rolling. Amazed at good signals so
early from VE4, VE5, VE6 and VE7 in my late afternoon/eve -- all worked by 6pm
local here (VE4VT in log 30 mins before MY sunset!), including all on SSB!
Only got one VY2 QSO, VY2RAC. VY0IQ in S and P mode was heard working VE6 on
40m SSB in last mins of the event, then disappeared - the elusive mult!
Lots of fun mixing in Running with hunting of VE stations and VE mults...Thanks
to all for the 40m band QSOs.
100 watts to homebrew wires: Icom 7300 to 88' doublet up near 40 ft; 40m Half
Square broadside E/W (which saw quite a bit of use). N1MM+ and WinKeyer USB CW
interface.
73/Happy Holidays/remain safe! Bill W1WBB
