Comments:
Wow, that was a lot of work / fun.
The station performed pretty much as it should have (finally). I have a
replacement shack computer and the present one is going to be dismantled and the
parts spread to the four winds. I had one big crash that cost some time...N1MM
lost all the configuration info and all my Flex com ports disappeared. Re-built
everything and within 50 or 75 Q's all was back to normal.
I haven't run this contest in a big way in ten years. It was fun, but it
reminds me how quiet and genteel CW and RTTY contesting is.
I had a goal of 1.5 million points after looking at recent NCCC scores but
didn't really know what to expect. the 15m JA run at the opening bell was a
blast from the past and a thing of beauty. I can't remember the last time I had
sustained 150-200 rates...
Most stateside guys running probably experienced the same pitfall: I had over
400 zero-point Q's due to the breathless guys who needed Zone 3 when the EU was
in greyline. One guy was a dupe from yesterday's EU greyline AND he said,
PLEASE COPY. I was, um, getting frustrated with them. I always try to give a
shoutout to casual contesters, but this was a real drag on any sort of
production.
I did make a lot of friends by handing out about 50 Zone 3 mults on 10 when
there was an opening to the Midwest and East Coast.
All in all, it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to improve on my shortfalls.
Thanks for all the Q's!
