Comments:
The lack of much propagation on 15 meters makes this a very difficult
contest from out here - very hard to keep focused on working people
on the radio - but I still had fun. 20 meters was a mess for the
most part. But the good low band conditions made that part of the
contest fun. Working things on 80 and 160 that we often do not hear
was great fun. 40 meters to japan was pretty good for me and I worked
a lot of YB and DU stations as well - well after sunrise even - that
was a lot of fun. I hope to see many more stations from that part of
the world in the coming contests - there seem to be a few more each time.
The station worked well - no issues with the hardware. I made a few
changes with the placement of the rotator controls the week after
the CW contest that were overdue. I also moved the watt meters so they
are not just above the frequency displays on the radios - so I usually see
quickly if I am not putting out any power. Another long overdue change
to the station configuration.
I was undecided about assisted vs. unassisted in the hours leading up
to the start - finally decided to go assisted in hopes that it would
be easier to keep going with the conditions we had - I think it was a good
choice this weekend but as 15 meters comes back I think I will do more
unassisted efforts again.
