Comments:
I don't typically participate in any 160 SSB contests but wanted to try out my
new shunt fed tower. My specific interest was to see how the remote frequency
tuning worked. In one word - GREAT! With the flick of a switch from my Op
position, I can now cover 1.800 to 1.925 with under an SWR of under 1.5. Yes,
that is not everything, but it also seems to get the signal out. I did both SP
and run and had no problem getting through pileups to EU with few repeats needed
and when running on 1.872 almost every other Q was with a EU station. More
testing is needed and will need to have the shunt tap point adjusted after all
the radials are completed, but it is proving itself to be a good replacement for
the old phased wire I-Ls.
73,
Bruce N1LN
