Comments:
First operation after 9 years Hiatus on 160m from my QTH. I always thought that
this contest is not a "nice funny operation" due to the TREMENDOUS jam
on the band but OM6NM decided we should try once more, so me+OK1FFU started to
repair our fixed 4x340m bev to USA and set up everything. I took it as
"social gathering" of OK/OM part of CN3A team without any ambitions.
Also we wanted to play a bit more with SUN SDR2 DX. We have set it to 2xRX-1xTX
setup as recommended on their web page. Also the antenna switching was basic -
both were listening to the same antenna - Ughhhh. The TRX did not behave too
good first night - we thought it is 100W TRX so 40W out is fine - well was not -
it overheated internally and regulated itself down to 12W, the cooler was cold,
but the box was very hot and the internal sensor thought it is 65deg hot.... -
so we lived with it the first night with about 1/4 power. In Saturday morning we
changed it so only 9W was needed and all was fine since. Otherwise the radio did
fine - we were happy with it.
We had :
SUN SDR2DX + PPA
47m high vertical with 150 radials
4x340m bev to USA
160m bev to USA
360m bev to JA
360m bev to 260 deg.
360m bev to JA
360m bev to 90deg
Our result is very influenced by BAD first night. Second night was much better.
On the end only 381x USA, 107x JA is better.
Over all we are happy with the contest - we will see if another 9 years hiatus
will come or we will come again.
Congratulation to our friends at OK7K for great result.
73 !
Jiri - OK1RI
