Comments:
Great to be on in this one with the sun so quiet! I was totally amazed at what
true 100 Watts at the output jack of the TRCVR (K3) running to the ant through a
few RF jack connectors, switchable contacts and 50 meters of old coax can do!
I was LP in this one. My two GU-72 tubes blew up during a chat on 160 with the
FOC mate Carl SM6CPY 2 days before the contest - the tube fan stopped and I
didn't notice its death in front of my face on a working table. I was too much
engaged in a QSO. The tubes blew up a few other components in the linear and I
wasn't able to fix it right quick (I still have to be at work for 10 - 12 hours
a day). So, the only other option was to go QRP. One other thing I considered -
assisted vs. non-assisted. Since I wasn't in position to win any trophy nor set
up an unbeatable record I thought that LP assisted was offering more fun, so I
made a quick decision in favor of LP assisted. I didn't realize at the decision
making point that the Rules had already made a big twist and the "LP
unassisted" was now a record valid entry... Otherwise I'd have had spent
more time on the band.
Again - a great contesting event. Thanks to the organizers!
TU all for Qs.
73! Willy UA9BA
