Comments:
This will have been my second contest submitting a score solo (and without the
guidance of an Elmer to double check me), behind my first one over a year ago,
so finger's crossed everything is filled out OK! I'm excited to have
participated in this historic contest! I don't have a very elaborate setup here
at my home QTH, but I can sure put my rain-gutter antenna to good use when I
take the notion. I'm still experimenting and tweaking my home-station, and this
was a great opportunity to put everything to the test. I had to dust off some
equipment and run a few makeshift cables, but it seems I was able to make a few
Qs, so that must mean something is working. My modest intent was to make at
least one contact and get my call sign on the air, before joining the WA3EKL
contesting group later in the day. Each time I thought I was ready to go QRT,
another exciting contact was made! At one point during the contest, I was
calling CQ for several minutes and about ready to shut everything down, when
seemingly out of nowhere a Portugal station answered my call, before then
working other stations on the band. That was extremely exciting, given my
limited setup! Many thanks and FB to everyone who worked me; I know I wasn't the
strongest signal out there, but I hope to improve for the next contest. Also
many kudos to the YL for putting up with a room full of radio junque scattered
about and the occasional RFI issues! All in all a very exciting event, and I
look forward to participating next year, too! 73 de K3MTR
