Comments:
I've been doing the WPX since the 80s as NY4D, WC4E, WK5R, KJ3X, KH7B and KH7XS,
and I can't remember doing it with worse conditions. 40 and 80 were noisy, 20
was wall to wall and like almost everyone else had a dead 10 meter band and a 15
meter band on the critical list.
Since we are so far away from tons of EU mults we value the small opening
windows to mine the EU prefixes. The only real band to do this at this part of
the cycle is 20. This year yielded a grand total of around 30 or so EU stations
in the contest. That resulted in a horrible mult total.
Since out in KH6 we can't keep up with the mults we try to make hay with the QSO
total. Last year resulted in 1100 15 meter Qs, compared to the 300 this year.
If we are not at the bottom of the cycle yet, I hate top think what next year
will bring.
