Comments:
I headed north 2 hours to a cabin in rare Bayfield County in hopes for a great
score due to the county rarity. I setup an 80m dipole pretty high in some giant
white pine trees. I also put up a lower G5RV in case the 80m dipole wouldn't
load on the other bands. I had RFI into my laptop which caused me to loose about
45 mins of operating time trying to solve the problem. I tried to get runs going
on 20 and 40 but never could. I think I worked more out of state stations Cq'ing
for WI stations than I did running... I soon realized that being in a rare
county doesn't really matter in this QSO party. Also, hardly anyone makes
cluster spots. I was able to run on 80m and most of my mults came from that
band. There were two different occasions I was run off an 80m LSB frequency by
hams thinking they owned the frequency when I had been there for a long time.
These hams were mocking contesters, playing sound effects, sending solid tone
carriers, and just plain being ignorant until they got their way.
